Do the poor need us or we need the poor?

How much you can do with one pair of hands?
I can think a lot of things that relate to a pair of hands.

I went to a friend’s presentation about her volunteer work in Africa.

“Do the poor need us or we need the poor?”
It is not the first time I heard people mentioned this question in their presentations.

Sometimes, I think that the poor people (or people who live in undeveloped countries) do not need us at all, because the values and things we have in the Western societies/developed countries are not necessary  good or the best.

Sometimes, I think that, they own one thing better than the things we own in Western countries; Happiness.

We need and learn what is Happiness from them. 

Children that my friend work with, she said you may want to bring more stuff to make the children happy or thinnking hard how to bring happiness to these children, but all these children ask for is someone to play soccer with them, that’s it. They are happy and satisfied with that. 

There are 10 fingers of each pair of hands.
Each finger has its own function.
There is no excuse for us; people who have the access to resources, people who have healthy body to say, “I cannot do it”.

So, start today, don’t make anymore excuse for yourself and if you can, reach your hands out to people.

P.S. Funny enough a lot of people think that you can only do volunteer work in Africa, I guess if you really want to do something meaningful, you can start from your local community.  I am sure a lot of places in your community needs you to give them a hand.
