Tea egg

31 03 2008

img_7923img_7893

So last weeknd was the long weekend
I was invited to a dinner from one of my friends
I found that not only Taiwanese people would like to serve the following dish
My friend from China always like to serve this dish as well

What dish?
Tea egg

My friend made it as a starter or a salad dish as pics showed above

Tea egg is kind of a snack for Chinese/Taiwanese or Hong Kong people

You may see why I would write Tea egg as today’s entry
coz obviously
it relates to tea

Chayedan.jpg

The eggs are boiled into this tea liquid
The tea that used usually black tea
or Pu-erh tea
or tea that have high in dar-brown tannins
It not only gives the taste but the color of it

green tea will be too bitter for it

It is salty
and
soy sauce or Chinese five-spice power are added into it for flavour
Yummy!

Organic Scottish breakfast tea

29 03 2008
img_7967
The other tea that I bought was Organic Scottish Breakfast Tea
The reason I bought this is to see whether this type of breakfast tea is better than Stash/Twining

Different brands of Breakfast tea

Twining

Stash

Revolution

Ingredients -          Kenyan

-          Assam

-          Ceylon Tea (Sri Lanka)

-          Malty Assam

-          Smooth Nilgiri

-          Full bodied Keemun

-   Organic Assam

-  Organic China Keemun

-  Organic Nilgiri Dunsandale

- (all full bodied)

I guess after looking at the chart
you may know which one I would prefer
especially now I love organic stuff
so I guess this brand more

The scottish breakfast tea is really fresh
the flavour does stand out
I like it after drinking
my mouth doesn’t have the tea staying inside
you know what I mean
sometimes after drinking a cup of tea
the tea  still staying inside your mouth
it feels kind of dry or there is soemthing in the mouth just don’t feel comfortable
it probably because of the little portion of milk that I added
but still
this one didn’t happen to me even though I added milk into it
This brand is good however the price is also “too good”
it is the most expensive out of these 3 brands
oh well
meanwhile I do need a good and  strong black tea for me while I am rushing and fighting the last two weeks of classes

and good that this tea just reduced the price at the right time

but I guess I should drink it slowly

Another organic…

Organic White Chai Tea

I bought these two tea from Revolution yesterday
Reasons to buy it because I wanna try it for so long
The package is so nice
I love white color and it gives a sense of cleanness
but too expensive
yesterdays it was about 50% sale @ Safeway….so I bought two of them

Last night
I tried the organic white chai tea first

The aroma of the chai tea came out immed. after I opened the tin lid
The flavour of the spices really stands out
not too strong
and
it is fresh

Info. about white tea:

white tea has limited scale from China and India
it is scarer than traditional tea
therefore it is more expensive

Health benefits:
Less caffeine
more active cancer-fighting antioxidant than green tea

The other type of white tea I tried was white peony
No wonder it was at a higher class and I paid more last time I visited a tea room
no that I only in love with organic things but also white tea now

Flower tea

27 03 2008

Osmanthus fragrans Ti Kuan Yin Tea

Osmanthus fragrans (sweet olive) is a flower and

there are four types of Osmanthus fragrans

it is a a type of Scented Tea or Chinese Flower tea

Scented Tea or Flower tea means  dried flowers are used to make tea,
green tea and black tea can be the base and mix with scent of flowers

Health Benefits of sweet olive:

- Good for Spleen, and quite nutritious
- Mild the condition of gastroptosia and gastric ulcer

This tea is actually from my parents
My mother said the tea leaves are not actually that good
so she didn’t think the tea will taste good
however
I made a cup of tea today and the sweet olive flowers greeted me with a wonderful aroma
smell good and strong flavor of the flower
i love sweet olive!!

probably I am still a beginner and couldn’t distinguish differences between good tea leaves vs. bad tea leaves
but the flavor of the flowers win my heart

A video about scented tea, check it out

4 cups of tea per day

26 03 2008

I just read something online
I guess it is better to know it late than not knowing it at all

It is from the UK Tea Council (I didn’t know that Tea can have council, by the way we have one in Canada as well)

Tea 4 Health

It says that 4 cups of tea will give you a daily fluid intake
the antioxidant tea contains can be beneficial for heart health
small amount of caffeine tea can help concetration

Mind you that tea is health when no sugar and milk is added

Also for personal comment
how come everything starts talking about portions
how many portions of fruit, veg, meat, grain…etcetc we need to take everyday
do men really not know how to eat good and healthy and we need all these experts or scientific researches to tell us?

Burdock Tea

24 03 2008

Still haven’t recovered from my cold
Still sitting in bed all the time

but other than drinking lots of water, orange juice, mango juice, lemon honey, lemon tea,

taking lots of Vitamin C
I also take the chinese drink that according to my mother who said it will help my cold/flu

But I of course read the instruction on the tea package
I just realised it is not what my mother said

It is Burdock Tea

There are several good things about this tea if you find it through goggle

Cleanses the blood
Stimulates the liver
Helps to regulate blood sugar
Anti-inflammatory
Antioxidant properties

There are more

http://www.florahealth.com/flora/home/Canada/HealthInformation/Encyclopedias/BurdockRoot.htm

But on the package it says it is good for

removing internal heat
Cure coughing
Cure Stroke
Reduce Cholestrol level
Cure Constipation
Help urination
Cure backpain

Burdock has lots of minerals, fibre, water, iron and calcium..
I guess that may be why my mother recommend me to drink this tea
at least it will do me good

There are different types of oolong tea

for example: Ti Kuan Yin, Narcissus

Oolong tea is my favorite tea

A type of tea I will drink after dinner or go for “Yum Cha” (Chinese restaurant for dim sum)

Oolong tea is in between Green and Black tea
It is called QingCha because it has the flowery and fresh taste like the green tea and the flavour of black tea
It moisturizes the skin, the throat, remove internal heat-7.gif image by hellokamkitty

16 03 2008

img_7799
So I bought the green tea sampler of Stash the other day…

I like to buy sampler
becoz it lets you try a little bit of each tea…

I am not a green tea fan
but I like drinking green tea
just recently start liking green tea ice cream

And from yesterday
after making a mango cheesecake from organic mango
and after I went back to Van City; the West Van’s organic market
I start to love organic food…

so the tea I have today said “Organic Tea” on the tea bag..
Hm…how would that taste like and how different it tastes like
img_7800

This green tea kind of disappointed mem89214201.gif image by hellokamkitty
Doesn’t taste that good at all
and it doesn’t taste like green tea..
well
I don’t know
it probably becoz it is blend and may be becoz organic ..
but I guess I shouldn’t say bad about it (it is just personal taste) coz I never try a real organic green tea and a blend green tea..

but still
it doens’t make me wanna have another one of this…
